has anyone got any info or opinions about hiking on the cohos in march? ive got some time then but am concerned that it may be too early. what do you think?

The trail in March can be quite interesting. A lot is going to depend on how quickly things warm up. If that happens, you will hit a lot of wet areas and deep snow in the higher elevations. (snow up there can persist into June!)
The snow this year never crusted up, so it is deep powder in most spots and even with snowshoes, you will sink up to your knees.
This is a call that you will have to make. It will depend on how rugged a hike you would be willing to make. Much of the blazing and signage will most likely be obscured.
Also, some of our trails utilize snowmobile trails and the snowmobile season contiunes on to April 15th.

thanks for the response. looks like careful planning necessary, including some special attention to bail-out points. small section seems like the way to go, if at all, this early
