There is a problem with the bypass trail on Dixville Peak. To get around the problem right this minute, read and follow the information below. Print out this info and keep it with you.
For North bounders, coming out of Kelsey Notch, you will reach a junction with the wide road accessing the towers. There is a CT sign here directing you to head up the road, uphill. You will have to climb approximately 2 miles, rounding two large switchbacks on the road before you come to a gate.
You will be able to see and hear a couple of towers at this point. Go beyond the gate and stay on the road. You want to hike the road until you reach wind tower number FOUR. The first tower you come to is number seven so count down from there. Tower four is on the downhill side of the peak and on the left side of the road. When you get to the tower, walk toward tree line on the right side of the wind tower. You will want to make your way down the slope on this side. It is a short, boulder-strewn slope. At the bottom of the slope toward your left, you will see an opening, which leads you to the snowmobile trail, which puts you back on the CT. Turn left here and you are on your way to Mt. Gloriette.
For South bounders, it is a little trickier. Having left Mt. Gloriette behind, you will be hiking uphill along the snowmobile trail, approaching the summit of Dixville Peak. As you are hiking along the snowmobile trail, look for an opening on your right. You should see the boulder-strewn slope below wind tower four; if you come to an opening but don't see the boulder-strewn slope from the trail, walk in a bit to make sure you don't miss it. Once you find the boulder-strewn slope, you will climb up it to get to the large access road that services the wind towers. Head uphill along the road toward the summit peak and then continue downhill on the road until you come to the junction with the Kelsey Notch trail. There is a CT sign here directing you to take a right and a double-blazed birch tree shortly before that letting you know a turn is coming.
