There are several trail closings to report in different areas of the Cohos Trail.
The western leg of the Isolation Trail has been closed as has the Dry River Trail. The Forest Service has indicated there is extensive damage to the trails due to last year's major storms. To bypass this problem, continue north on the Davis Path to the Camel Trail on Mt. Washington. Turn west and then south on the Crawford Path above Lake of the Clouds Hut. Work southbound to Mt. Eisenhower and the Edmands Path. Southbounders must not drop down the Eisenhower Trail but continue north past Lake of the Clouds Hut, pick up the Camel Trail, turn east, and then south on the Davis Path and run the Davis Path many long miles out to Route 302.
The trail near the Sugar Hill/Tumbledick Mt. Notch south of Coleman State Park is closed due to severe damage from drainage from a logging cut. There is no easy bypass, but there is the option of going around Nathan Pond and taking the old tote road north through the Nathan Pond valley to the eastern end of Big Diamond Pond. At Big Diamond Pond, turn west and climb out of the valley on the access road to Little Diamond Pond and Coleman State Park. To do this, you must study topo maps well and plot your route. You do not want to wander eastward or far southward in the Nathan Pond area or you may end up lost in logging country far removed from civilization.

We'll see if we can post a few maps soon of bypasses of the closed trails. When we do, we will make the bypass maps available as digital images on the website and on Friends of the Cohos Trail on Facebook.
