The Nulhegan Gateway Association is trying to land a truly huge grant to develop trails in Northeastern Vermont, but they are also interested in providing some grant money for work on the Cohos Trail. Here is what they are trying to fund on our side of the fence in 2012:
1. Cutting the proposed 3.5 mile Trio Trail to get hikers off the Nash Stream Road (2 miles) and into the woods around Long Mountain.
2. Cutting and putting in erosion controls on the historic 2.5 mile Deer Mt. Trail restoration effort all the way up to the old firetower on the 3,005-foot summit.
3. Building two-car parking lots at the Percy Road entrance to the Nash Stream Forest, at the trailhead of the Moose Alley Trail, and at the trailhead of the Falls in the River Trail.
All that would be on their dime if they get the funds. We'd get some huge improvements without batting an eye. Super!
