2 more miles are off the pavement!!!
Jump on the Black Cat Trail just south of Deer Mountain and follow the yellow blazes South or if you're traveling northbound, walk a few feet onto the unnamed tote road 1.7 miles north of the Idlewilde Road (on your left) and you'll see the yellow blazes to your right.

The Black Cat Trail is now open from Deer Mountain Campground to Idlewilde Road - approximately 3.7 miles. As you're driving north on Route 3, just before you get to Deer Mountain Campground, there's a road on the right called East Inlet Road - directly across from East Inlet Road is snowmobile trail Corridor 5 - you can see the white apron cross Rt. 3 -
For a daytrip, you can actually park off the road here and hike to the top of the hill on the snowmobile trail and watch for the Black Cat Trail on the left. No signs yet but it has been blazed yellow.
The first dirt road you come to is Desmond Valley and the trail crosses it - Next is the West Inlet brook crossing and you may want to go up onto the road to get around it - then follow this section approx. 1.5 miles to the next dirt road.
Follow the yellow blazes south for another mile and you'll come out to Route 3 where you'll cross onto the R & J Chaput Trail for the last .7 mile to Idlewilde Road.
Trail signage is being worked on and the R & J Chaput trail should be blazed before the week is out.
