Here are a bunch of items you should know about.
The all new 4.4 mile Covell Mt. Trail is open and blazed. Check it out.
The East Side Trail around Nash Bog is in great shape and getting better. New puncheon spans will be put in soon.
Gadwah Notch will get some new puncheons on the south end of the notch in late July.
Dixville Notch trails are slated for a big rebuild in late July, too.
The Rowell Link has been cleaned up well and ditched.
The Rowell Brook bridge has been rebuilt and is perfectly safe to cross now.
The half mile approach to the Rowell Brook bridge, down the Bald Mt. Notch Trail has been ditched a good deal and clipped.
The Percy Loop Trail has been ditched and all blowdowns taken out.
The upper half of the Old Summer Club Trail has been swept and is in good shape.
The popular Percy Peaks Trail has been rebuilt.
It appears the State increased the size of Cathedral Meadow quite a bit by removing or logging some trees well to the west of the trail. The view is more open.
A big trail bypass is being designed by Forest and Lands and the Trails Bureau on the south flank of Dixville Peak, to move hikers and snowmobilers away from the wind farm towers that will be built up there soon. The bypass will swing around to the west side of the peak.
Some work will be done on the link between Table Rock and the Balsams Wilderness Ski Area later this summer. Also the connector between the ski area and the Dixville Peak access lane will be cleaned up a bit and wet spots bypassed.
Lots of people have come out to adopt trails of late, including four people in the Nash Stream Forest, and four people in Pittsburg. This is the biggest clutch of new adopters we've ever seen in one year. That's great for anyone who wants to be out on the Cohos Trail in 2011 and beyond.
