Haven't posted a terrible amount here, but i've been hiking on the cohos for about 4 years now, doing mostly overnights and day hikes in the dixville/stark/CT lakes areas.
i've done the hike from coleman state park back down to the balsams, but we skipped nathans pond as it was pouring rain the day we did it and we had been forewarned to steer clear in times of heavy rain. i've since learned that nathans pond is part of NH's remote fishing program and is stocked yearly with brook trout fingerlings. was going to plan a hike in there to fish and sleep overnight but was wondering if anyone had an fishing experience in there. if so, please share your experience.
thanks a bunch to everyone that contributes to the functionality of this trail, it is a real treasure.

Hi Unbob
I have never personally fished Nathan Pond, but know of someone that has. He said that the fishing is very good and gets very light pressure. Waterproof boots are a must if the weather is wet.

thanks ridgerunner. i put a post up on myfishfinder NH over a month ago and no one has responded. i take that as a good sign! gonna make it up there for some brookie fishing at some point this summer. i will report back my findings. are there decent (aka dry) spots to set up camp around nathans pond for an overnight?

Some other ponds worth trying are up here in Pittsburg. Stub Pond, Judd pond, Perry Ponds, Unknown Pond and a few others. These are all remote with good to great fishing. Haven't tried them myself, but they are on my list of things to do. Many of these are flyfishing only. Don't know about camping around Nathan Pond other than the lean-to and Coleman State Park. You can also camp on the Tillotson land but I don't believe that Nathan Pond is on that land.

where is the lean-to you speak of? coleman state park is a bit of a walk out, i was hoping to sleep right near the water, if possible. hike in > fish > eat fresh brook trout > hike out the next day

Unbob,
Give me a call at 603-363-8902 or leave a phone number so I can call you. I can direct you to where you can legally camp fairly nearby (within a mile).
