The breakout of the Moose Alley Trail by Pete and Lainie raises the possibility of a good deal of winter hiking potential in the future, particularly in the Pittsburg Area.
The Moose Alley Trail is ideal for snowshoeing and could be for xc skiing. The Falls in the River Trail should be a terrific winter trail, too, once complete. Winter views from Mt. Prospect and Mt. Covell should be sensational. And a run down the Lake Francis Trail to Six Mile View and a walk on the lake ice should be easy enough for anyone to undertake.
In Jefferson, the Colonial Whipple Trail is a good snowshoe or ski. If we can reopen the Slide Brook Trail in Jefferson next summer, that, too, would be a nice link to the old railbed into Moorhen Marsh and Cherry Pond.
Hiking on snowshoes out of Coleman State Park to the south and up onto Sugar Hill can be rewarding, particularly if you cross over Sugar Hill a quarter mile and come down the west side to a viewpoint to the north and west.
