I'm starting a thru hike attempt in the north. At this time is there still no camping between Deer Mtn. and Ramblewoods. Deer Mtn makes for an extremely short day while Ramblewoods looks like it would be 20+ the first day.

There's not a whole lot that we can do at this time in the Pittsburg area. The land is posted against overnight camping at this time. Sorry about that.

I'm certain that you could find a "quite" place after your 1st day. At the end of day 2, now at about the 19 mile mark, when you have completed your hike up the newly opened trail to Mt Prospect, on the way down you'll enter the door yard of Pete & Lainie. This is the Northern Headquarters of The Cohos Trail Association. You'll see tons of beautiful flowers everywhere, maybe notice a small lovely bridge, and a hiker's shelter. Their Mountain Bungalow is beside the house. Have a private room w/your very own full kitchen. Recommended!
Let 'em know if your comin'. With arrangements you could leave a food cache there, your vehicle, and they could run you to the border.
btw: All c.g.'s are in the $25 range. The Sportsmen Lodge runs just $35!

Legal camping is scarce up there, but I didn't have trouble last week hiking northbound. Beware the possibility of very tall grass on anything like a snowmobile trail. After my experience on corridor 21 earlier in my trip (about which more in a separate posting), I decided against going west of Third Conn. Lake, and I stayed on Rt.3 all the way from Mountain Bungalow (Danforth Rd.) to the border. By that route, it was about 13 miles between the Bungalow & Deer Mountain SP, and you already know the mileage between the border/4th Lake & Deer Mtn. Not a bad day.

It was our pleasure to help out and give back to the CT after completing our thruhike. - Adam
