I've got a relatively new GPS (Garmin GPSMAp 60CSx) and am wondering if I should take it, partly as back up and also for use if I decide to do some bushwhacking. I'm curious as to what use others have made of GPS's on the Cohos and if anyone has made a GPS of Coos county or a larger area which includes the Cohos.

There are no GPS coordinates on the actual Cohos maps. In the future we will plug in GPS points for various features and junctions and structures along the route so the maps will be of use to those who take along a GPS.
Of course, if you take way points as you go, you can always backtrack to a past coordinate, ensuring you don't get too far off course if you are bushwhacking.
I, personally, never bother with electronics while on a hike. I find them an intrusion that keeps my attention focused away from the natural world around me. I would rather use a compass when bushwhacking and rely on the old methods of keeping track of myself by counting heights of land and streambeds I go over.
Don't get me wrong, GPS are great tools, but I'd just rather focus on seeing wildlife and finding natural features than keeping attuned to some digital device. Maybe it's just genetics. Can't walk and chew gum at the same time!
