Last weekend, solid steps were taken to spur the development of several proposed trails in Clarksville and Pittsburg townships, including a new route from Weirs Tree Farm in Clarksville to the Dead Water area south of Lake Francis, all new trail from Round Pond to Route 3 in Pittsburg, and more than three miles of trail from Camp Otter Road to the Magalloway Road in Pittsburg. Also, a new route to open up the now closed Slide Brook Trail in Jefferson was scouted and it may be possible to build that up in 2010.
Much of these routes was flagged and materials estimates jotted down for new bog bridging and bridge deck repairs.
Hopefully, a good deal of this will be developed this year so that we can eliminate a miles of road walking in Pittsburg.
In other news, the Sentiers Frontaliers in Quebec have reported that they will begin building their long link trail from their trail system in the Eastern Townships down the boundary to meet the Cohos Trail at the customs stations at the border. This would create the second international trail system in the East when completed.
