The Cohos Trail has its first hiker hut up and running on a donation only (no fee) basis this summer. Be sure to check it out on the website, under Mountain Bungalow. It sleeps five people now, but will sleep as many as 13 or 14 sometime this summer. Also, the Cohos Trail Association will be building a lean-to on the west wall of Kamp Kirk in the Nash Stream Forest this summer. When it is complete, you may stay there for free. The lean-to will eventually become the kitchen at Kamp Kirk. For those who are new to this site, you should know that there are two other lean-tos atop mountains on the Cohos Trail. There is an organized camp site on North Percy Peak, as well, and a terrific little campground -- Bear Ledge Campground -- just below our Mountain Bungalow hut. The Forest Service operates a eight-person camp near the summit of Mt. Cabot (4,000 foot elevation), as well. It maintains walk-in camp sites along the old Cherry Mountain Road, as well, and organized campgrounds at Zealand and Dry River. And the state of New Hampshire operates campgrounds at Little Diamond Pond at Coleman State Park, Lake Francis Campground on that 2,000 acre lake, and Deer Mountain Campground in the far north. There is plenty of info here on www.cohostrail.org. Check it out and get out into New Hampshire's Great Unknown, the grand forests of Coos County along the Cohos Trail. Mr. Gadwah

Hoping to do the trail sometime. Live in southern NH now but will be moving to Northern NH in a few years, Have to get some health issues taken care of before I do any long distance hikes. Would like to chat with people that have done it. Would be willing to listen to all the advice anyone has to give. ;D

My name is Ray--trail name, Hamlet. Just joined the Cohos Trail and forum. Thinking about hiking at least some of the Cohos in June. This looks to be a great experience. Happy trails from Hingham, Mass.
