On the weekdays of August 17 and 18, I will be staying in the Nash Stream Forest at Kamp Kirk so that I have access to trails to work on. Anyone who is free at that time and would like to lend a hand is welcome.
My hope is that I will hike in from Christine Lake the two miles to the Rowells Link and clean up that trail and inspect the bridge. The trail hasn't seen work in two years, so it will probably need a fair bit of maintenance.
If all goes well that morning and there is plenty of time, I may then go back up the Nash Stream Road to the Percy Loop trailhead and walk uphill to Percy Loop Camp. From there, I'm going to bushwhack north northwest on the level along the flank of Long Mountain and then run due north 1.5 miles to a crossing over the Trio Ponds Road. A bit further north I'll intersect Pond Brook, cross it, and descend to the very top of Pond Brook Falls and the short trail up there.
That bushwhack will be flagged and will hopefully become the route of a through trail from the campsite to the falls that will take hikers off the Nash Stream Road once and for all.
Anyone wishing to be a part of that should send me an email at wilshy@worldpath.net or cohos@cohostrail.org, or call 603-363-8902.

Perhaps I can join you. Need a few weeks to know my schedule. Hiking with a lady hiker from the Southwest in August. We hike together every year in August. I'll ask if she wants to join us on those 2 days. She is young, fit, and one rugged zippity do da hiker. In fact she might make us look old! ;D

I think that's the 16th and 17th? The 18th is the great day at the Chartierville Rest area when the Cohos Trail officially gets linked to the Sentiers Frontaliers trail making this an International Trail.

That would be right, the 16th and 17th it is.
At about 1 pm on Sunday, I will hike up the Percy Loop to the Percy Loop Camp and begin a bushwhack north northwest and then due north on the flank of Long Mountain, flagging a potential new trail. That will run for about two or so miles to the top of Pond Brook Falls, crossing the Trio Ponds Road and jumping Waterman Brook (I think it's called) to get to Pond Brook.
That bushwhack above the Nash Stream Valley should take three to four hours. That route will become, hopefully, a new link trail that will take all hikers off the Nash Stream Road for 1.9 miles.
The next morning, I will go into the Rowells Brook watershed and clean up the Rowells Link trail, a path that hasn't seen work in a couple of years. I'll also head south for half a mile to check the Bald Mountain Trail up to Bald Mountain Notch (nice quiet spot).
