This work detail will be as follows: Meet at the headwaters gate at the end of the Nash Stream Rd. in the Nash Stream Forest 9:00 am on July 18, 2009 (Saturday). We will be clearing the trail to the Baldhead Lean-to (6.2 miles) where we will be meeting up with another crew coming in from the Kelsey Notch end. Bring a sleeping bag for a night at Baldhead Lean-to then Sunday will be work at the Lean-to. (Staining, opening view, enclosing latrine etc...) If you think you'd like to join us for this detail, please contact Lainie Castine at prospmw@localnet.com or cohos@cohostrail.org or call at 603-538-6777 and leave a message if I'm out on the trail. If we can get enough workers, we will be able to split up into groups and accomplish a whole lot more. Mark July 18th on your calendar and come have some fun!

Helping out would be a great prelude to my hike, but I'm working that weekend. I look forward to benefiting from this project later in July.

Thinking about it, I would imagine the reader might wonder what tools & gear one should bring to finish the planned work?
I will bring a sleeping pad and bag, 3 meals, snacks, & enough water for a day and a half of calorie burning. And tools.
Will there be an extra tool or two in case one may not have, or know what to bring?

Where there has been very few responses, we'll be making this a one day venture We'll be taking in supplies to the Baldhead Lean-to via Rt. 26 in Millsfield near the Peace of Heaven and just spend the day staining the lean-to and re-opening the view. Loppers and bow saw will be provided by T.C.T.A. and a chainsaw will be on hand. We'll have 3 gallons of stain to haul in addition to our personal packs. An overnight will be optional. Thanks for asking, Mtn. Magic....good to see you can make it!

I woud imagine even a bad day on the Cohos Trail is better than a good day at work!
See you Saturday.

Hey, come on out to the work weekend, lazybones.
Need more prodding? Read the press release below.
COLUMBIA, NH-- Itching to work atop a 3,000-footer in the shadow of a rustic lean-to in the most remote terrain in Columbia township? Cohos Trail Association officers Lainie Castine of Pittsburg, Bob Paradise of Stark, and Mountain Magic of Dalton are leading a volunteer workday (and overnight at the lean-to if you so desire) atop Baldhead Mountain, elevation 3,047 feet, on Saturday, July 18th. If you like exploring remote country and doing a bit of trail work for your fellow travelers in this life, then come to Log Haven Campground parking lot in Millsfield on Route 26 at 8 a.m. on that Saturday and jump aboard a four-wheel drive vehicle or two and shuttle into the Kelsey Notch Trail trailhead tucked under the south flank of Dixville Peak. Bring work gloves, boots, two quarts of water, a lunch, snacks, bug dope, and a will to get dirty and sweaty climbing a fine woods trail to the summit of Baldhead, with its lean-to and wonderful forty-mile view down the Phillips Brook Valley. The crew leaves promptly at 8 a.m., so get up with the birds, eat on the fly, and drive that Detroit flivver to Log Haven as fast as the law allows. Work for the day will include cleaning debris and blowdowns from the trail, clipping brush, restoring the view, staining the lean-to, improving the site of the structure, checking the condition of the latrine, and having some free time to enjoy the wonderful view of wild country. If enough folks sign up and wish to spend the night in the lean-to (highly recommended), then an overnight can be arranged. For more details, call Lainie or Pete Castine at 603-538-6777 or email cohos@cohostrail.org.
Okay? Gonna get your rear end in gear? Good!
